Why I Started Ariari21
Building Community Through Art
Ariari21 is a student-led nonprofit organization that brings together art, community service, and leadership. I founded and registered Ariari21 because I wanted to create a different kind of service organization where students could use their creativity to help people around them. Instead of seeing art only as something personal, I wanted to see how it could be used in real community spaces and create a positive impact.
I started Ariari21 because art has always been an important part of my life, but I wanted to use it for more than my own projects. Community service can take many forms, such as cleaning up public spaces, donating food, or collecting clothing. Through Ariari21, I wanted to serve the community in a way that felt more connected to who I am. I wanted to show myself and others that art and community service can work together.
My Role as Founder
As the founder and president, I help organize projects, lead meetings, communicate with volunteers, and make sure each activity runs smoothly. For mural projects, this means thinking about the wall design, the schedule, the materials, the student volunteers, and the cleanup after each session. When many people are working together on one mural, things can easily become disorganized, so part of my responsibility is to create a clear plan while still allowing volunteers to share their own creativity.
Projects and Impact
Art Education
Teaching drawing and painting to younger students and children with fewer chances to take art classes.

Painting murals at senior apartments, homeless shelters, and adult day care centers.
Community Outreach
Volunteering at events such as the 2021 and 2024 Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade float projects.
Over the years, Ariari21 has been active for about five years and has completed seven mural paintings across three community locations. The organization usually has around 25 to 30 active student volunteers and has also participated in Rose Bowl Parade float projects, art lessons, food drives, toy drives, and other community service events.
One of the most meaningful projects was our first mural at a senior apartment. It was our smallest mural, but seeing residents stop, look at the wall, and smile made me realize that the project’s meaning was much bigger than its size.
What I Learned
Leading Ariari21 taught me that leadership is not about controlling people or telling everyone exactly what to do. I learned that a leader should create a system where others can contribute their ideas and feel comfortable participating. I also learned that creativity needs structure. When schedules, materials, or communication fall apart, it becomes much harder for people to create freely.
This experience helped me understand that planning, organization, and problem-solving are just as important in creative projects as they are in other areas I am interested in. Ariari21 represents both my passion for art and my commitment to community service. It also showed me that individual interests and achievements become more meaningful when they can be used to bring people together and create change for others.
