Remnants

Digital Drawing, 2023

This was a personal project that began from my interest in trying digital art for the first time. For most of my art experience, I had worked with physical materials such as graphite, paint, and charcoal. Because digital art was something I had no experience with, I became curious about what I could do with the technology and how it would feel different from working by hand.

The piece tells the story of a boy who comes across an old robot that has lost one of its legs after a life of combat and fighting. At first, I thought doing a master copy would be the best way to learn digital tools and become more familiar with the app. However, as I thought more about the project, I realized that creating my own story would help me grow in a different way. Instead of only learning the technical side of digital art, I wanted to practice building an image from my own imagination, including the setting, characters, lighting, and mood.

Working on this piece taught me that learning a new medium can strengthen both technical and creative skills at the same time. It helped me understand that art is not only about replicating something perfectly or drawing with flawless accuracy. Creativity, storytelling, and the ability to invent something new are just as important, especially when using a medium that gives me more room to experiment.
